Over 350 Competitors and hundreds of spectators from Georgia, Virginia, North and South Carolina came out for Wayne Green’s annual War Angel Challenge held at it’s new location, the Dillon City Wellness Center in Dillon, South Carolina.

The tournament was rated SKIL AA, PPKF and MATT (Martial Arts Tournament Tour) and had a pretty good turn out.

Starting with musical weapons, Ashley Middleton of Georgia’s Team Strike Force held everyone at bay for the 11 and under division, while brother Gene Middleton took all the marbles in the 12-17 division then the same two won the musical forms.

Traditional weapons spectators saw Nicholas Riggs with a score of 29.93 keeping Gene Middleton, with a score of 29.92, from taking first in the 17 and under division while Asante’ Lee of Team War Angel took third. The adult divisional winner was Anthony Higgins.

Open forms winners included juniors, Ashley Middleton, Gene Middleton, and Caitlynne Harris. Adult winners included Angelica Green of Lacey Green’s Team Thunder Zone, Michael Goodwin, and James Ellington.

Shonda Higgins was top of her field for the adult female Korean division, Michael Goodwin the male division, Gregory Mencer the Japanese/Okinawan division while Anthony Higgins the senior traditional over James Ellington. Ashley Middleton won both the 11 and under Korean and Japanese/Okinawan divisions. Gene Middleton was the top finisher for the 12-17 Korean over Asante’ Lee while Shaquelle Davis was best of her class in the 17 and under Kenpo division.

Now on to the rock’um, sock’um sparring events of the day, In the junior divisions Nicholos Riggs held off Miguel Ceron 3/2 in 10-11 boys. Justin Brown of Kenny Morrisons’ school, kept Gene Middleton in check 5/2 for the 12-13 boys win. Manuel Lopez with a score of 9/1 kept first from Anthony Riggs for the 14-15 boys title while John Norton of Team War Angel slipped by Zack Knox 8/7 in 16-17 boys. Ashley Middleton won the 9 and under girls/boys while Caitlynne Harris took home the trophy for 12-14 girls.

Joe Fife of Orlando, Florida, buzz-sawed his way through the men’s light division 13/3 over Wayne Green Junior. Taking third was Gary Whelphy. Darrin Hilton of South Carolina’s Team Superfoot surpassed Keith Green 8/2 for the middle weight division. Kenny Green Junior held his ground for heavy weight, while Marcus Green squeezed by Major Plamer 8/7 for super heavy. Senior men winners included Joey Shiflett and Kenny Morrison.
